(South Bend, Ind.) Washington High School midfielder Sergio Lopez has signed with the Holy Cross men's soccer program for the 2010 - 11 school year.
Sergio, the son of Sergio Lopez and Maria Rodriguez, joins Washington teammate Otoniel Gonzalez at Holy Cross. Lopez marks the 20th player to sign with Coach Harley and the Saints this offseason.
"Sergio is a heady player that has great touch and skill on the ball," said Head Coach Dustan Harley. "He plays very calmly and has a knack for finding his teammates. He is the second player to come from us from Washington HS this year which speaks volumes about this up and coming program."
Lopez was a work horse for Coach Ginzer and the Panther program. Sergio was a four year starter and was named honorary captain his senior year.
"Sergio has helped our program rejuvenate over the past four years from a winless program to a contender," said Washington Head Coach Brian Ginzer. "His leadership and soccer skill has helped our younger players play at a higher level. I wish him all the best luck at Holy Cross and hope he makes the best of this fantastic opportunity with Coach Harley."
