(Ann Arbor, Mich.) Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Marian University the Saints were eager to get back on the field to pay a visit to the Cardinals of Concordia University. The last time these two teams met in 2008 Concordia walked away with a 3-1 victory.
Once again the Saints controlled the game producing 35 shots to the Cardinals 17. However, it was Cardinal midfielder Mohammed Hoteit that struck first in the 47th minute on an unassisted goal to put the home side up one.
As time was winding down the Saints looked as though they were headed for their second straight loss. The Saints continued to pressure and Xavier Smart (Ontario, Canada), finally evened the game in the 88th minute. David Alva (Ontario, Canada) recorded the assist on the play.
After two hard fought overtime periods the game ended in a tie and put the Saints at 1-3-1 on the year. Saints goalkeeper Damian Marciniak (Michigan City, Ind.) recorded 7 saves in 110 minutes of action. Mikey Erickson of Concordia recorded 19 saves.
"We fought hard and peppered their net for 90 minutes, forced their keeper to make 19 saves, and finally broke through with two minutes left when Xavier picked up a ball slotted through from David Alva and fired it past the keeper," said Head Coach Dustan Harley. "We really picked it up in the overtime periods and unfortunately, we couldn't find the back of the net and walked away with a very frustrating 1-1 draw."
The Saints return home for a 6pm match-up Thursday, September 16th, at the Indiana Invaders complex. The Foresters are currently 0 - 5 on the year and are coming off a 3 - 2 overtime loss to fellow Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity Christian College.
