(Deerfield, Ill.) Heading into Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Saturday afternoon at Trinity International University the Saints were hoping to start the CCAC season with a win.
The Saints were ranked 11th in the nation in total shots per game and 26th in total shots on goal heading into Saturday's showdown with the Trojans. However, Trinity was able to slow the Saints offense and shut out the Saints for the second time this season.
Freshman Jared Ventura beat Holy Cross goalkeeper Damian Marciniak (Michigan City, Ind.) in the 10th minute to put the Trojans up 1. Petro Giannakopoulos recorded his seventh goal of the season in the 35th minute to give the Trojans a two goal lead entering half.
The Saints could not capitalize in the second half and lost for the first time since September 11th. The Trojans improved to 4 - 3 - 1 while the Saints fall to 3 - 4 - 1 and 0 - 1 in the CCAC.
The Saints continue their CCAC schedule this Tuesday, September 28th, against the University of St. Francis at the Indiana Invaders complex. Kick-off is set for 6pm.
