(Schererville, Ind.) The Holy Cross women's soccer team took to the pitch Tuesday afternoon at Calumet College of St. Joseph for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up. The Saints were looking to end their six game losing streak.
Mallory Defries of St. Joseph ended any hope for the Saints to come home with points as she tapped in a game ending goal in the 97th minute off a free kick. Sandy Thur took the kick and recorded the assist for the Crimson Wave.
The Wave jumped out to an early lead in the 3rd minute when Gina Vera beat sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Heston (Plymouth, Ind.) on an unassisted goal. Heston recorded six saves on the day.
The game remained at 1 - 0 entering the second half. However, Valerie Patout (New Iberia, La.) recorded her second goal of the year in the 50th minute on a ball from Amanda Dugan (South Bend, Ind.) to even the score. Regulation ended in a 1 - 1 draw, but it was the Crimson Wave getting the victory in the end.
The Saints fall to 1 - 14 on the year and will host Judson University on Saturday, October 23rd, at the Indiana Invaders complex. Kickoff is set for 4pm with the men's game following at 6pm. The Eagles are currently 4 - 7 - 3 on the year.
