(Schererville, Ind.) After 110 minutes of soccer the Saints and Crimson Wave tied at 1 goal apiece in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match-up Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints struck first in the 42nd minute as Zak Drake (Ontario, Canada) beat Crimson Wave goaltender Alex Gallegos on an unassisted goal. Heading into half the Saints took a 1 goal lead and the hopes of ending their 5 game losing streak.
The Saints defense held strong, but in the 80th minute Calumet's Jeff Melton evened the game at 1. Two overtime periods could not settle the 1 - 1 draw and the Saints moved to 4 - 9 - 2 on the year and 1 - 5 - 1 in the CCAC. Currently the Saints sit at the 10th spot in the conference standings.
Holy Cross was outshot 13 - 9 on the day. Damian Marciniak (Michigan City, Ind.) ended the night with 7 saves.
The Saints will continue their CCAC schedule this Saturday, October 23rd, against Judson University. The Eagles are currently ranked #23 in the latest NAIA coaches poll. Kickoff is set for 6pm following the women's game.
