(Notre Dame, Ind.) The men's basketball team opened their 2010-11 campaign Saturday night in the Pfeil Center. Under the direction of new Head Coach Bob Schermerhorn the Saints were looking to start the new season with a victory.
Trailing by 9 at halftime to the Cardinals of Andrews University the Saints battled back to even the score. With a chance to win in it the final seconds of regulation, Holy Cross was unable to get a clear shot.
In a back and forth battle during overtime Andrews University outlasted the Saints 71 - 70. Once again the Saints were unable to produce a clear final shot in the final seconds as time expired.
Four different players ended the night in double figures for Holy Cross. Leading the way was junior gaurd J.T. Breveard (South Bend, Ind.) with 20 points and 5 assists. Taylor Williams (South Bend, Ind.) added 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Leading Andrews was Jerome Murray with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Matthew Little chipped in 17 points and the Cardinals improved to 1 - 0.
The Saints fall to 0 - 1 and host cross-town foe Bethel College Tuesday night at the Pfeil Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm. The Pilots are currently 1 - 0 and coming off a big win over Indiana University - South Bend.
