Second Half Surge Not Enough To Hold Off Pilots
Men's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 2, 2010
(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Saints welcomed cross - town foe Bethel College to the Pfeil Center Tuesday evening in a non-conference match-up. This was only the second time that these two teams met in the Pfeil Center.
The Pilots were able to take an early lead on the Saints, but Holy Cross was able to force turnovers and hold the Pilots quite late in the first half. Trailing by as many as 10, the Saints fought back and trailed 31 - 29 at the end of the half.
Once again the Pilots jumped out to an ealry lead in the second half, but the Saints forced turnovers and they eventually took a 5 point lead midway through the second half. However, the Saints could not pull out their first victory over Bethel College as the Pilots went on to win 68 - 57.
J.T. Breveard (South Bend, Ind.) led the Saints with 13 points and 5 assists. The Saints forced 15 turnovers and held the Pilots to 41.9% from the field including 16% from behind the arc. Bethel's Caleb Laidig led all scorers with 14 points.
The Saints (0 - 2) will return to action next Monday, November 8th, against Andrews University. The game will be played in Berrien Springs, Mich. on the campus of Andrews University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm. The Cardinals defeated the Saints 71 - 70 on October 30th, in the Pfeil Center.
