The Holy Cross men's soccer team hosted the Foresters of Huntington University (4-10-2) Tuesday evening. The Saints (4-8-1) were coming off a 5-1 victory over Andrews University. Despite the cold and wind, the scoring would come early and often.
Steven Roberts of Huntington broke free from the Saints defense in the 12th minute to give the Foresters an early 1-0 lead. Huntington was clicking on all cylinders as Adam McLaughlin, and Steven Roberts (2) would give the Foresters an early 3-0 lead with 19 minutes to play in the first half.
The Saints would not go down without a fight as Taggart James put one in the back of the net in the 29th minute. Romulo Nobrega recorded his team leading 10th goal of the season to close the Huntington lead to just one before the half ended.
The Saints would carry the momentum as the second half began. The frustration of Huntington was evident as Taylor Zeman picked up a yellow card five minutes into the half. The Saints evened the score at three in the 60th minute when Oswaldo Garcia fired one in from 25 yards out. Huntington would prove to be too much in the end. Dustin Shafer would add a goal in the 68th minute, and ten minutes later Nathan Boyer would add a fifth goal for Huntington.
The Saints will look to rebound against Concordia this Saturday in the final home game of the year. Please note that the game will be played at the Indiana Invaders complex at 2pm.
