The Holy Cross men's soccer team ended their 2008 campaign last night with a 4-3 victory over Andrews University. The win put the Saints at 7-10-2 for the season.
The Saints struck first as Sergio DelCampo scored his first goal of the season in the 15th minute on a pass from Romulo Nobrega. Oswaldo Garcia added a second goal 6 minutes later, assisted by Jose Rios. Right before the end of the half, Andrews kept the score close with a late goal.
The Saints continued to hammer away at the Andrews goalkeeper in the second half. David Bodien broke through in the 69th minute to put the Saints up by two goals. However, the two goal lead was short lived as Andrews scored another goal in the 76th minute. Romulo Nobrega then added a fourth goal, the game winner, in the 80th minute. Andrews scored with 7 minutes remaining, but the Saints were able to hold on in the end to earn their seventh victory of the season. "We played well and scored some great goals on a very rough field. I am glad we were able to end our season with a win," said Head Coach Thiago Pinto. "We have taken an enormous stride with our program and I am proud of our guys."
