(Marion, Ind.) Trailing by 3 with 11:35 remaining in the first half, the #5 and defending NAIA national champions Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats went on a 15 - 2 run and eventually cruised to a decisive 82 - 47 victory over the Saints Wednesday evening.
Holy Cross was led by Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, Ind.) with her 8th double-double on the year recording a team high 11 rebounds and 19 points. Lauren Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) finished the night with 16 points and 6 rebounds. The Saints struggled from the field shooting just 33% including 1-of-22 from behind the arc.
Elaine Hessel led the Wildcats with a game high 21 points and Krystal Stoneking added 16 as they improved to 9-1 on the year. As a team, Wesleyan shot 54% from the field but were outrebounded 36-34 on the night.
The Saints will return home Saturday afternoon in the Pfeil Center for a 1pm tip-off against Purdue-Calumet in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match-up. The Saints are 2-10 on the year and 1-1 in the CCAC. The Peregrines are 5-4 on the year and 0-1 in the CCAC.
