The Holy Cross men's basketball team took on the University of Northwestern Ohio Tuesday night at the Joyce Center. The young Saints were looking for their first win of the season.
The game started off fast pace as the Racers took an early 14-1 lead. The Saints climbed back in the game as they went on a 6-0 run. That would be the closest the Saints would get as Northwest Ohio shot nearly 62% from the field in the first half. The Saints shot 31% from the field. The Racers took a 47-26 lead into the half. "We need to come out in the first half with more intensity," said Head Coach Steve Baumgartner. "It's been taking too long for us to get in an offensive rhythm."
The Saints began to find that rhythm in the second half shooting 7-11 from behind the 3-point line. Northwest Ohio would continue to shoot lights out, winning the game 96- 75. Freshman Elliott Jones Jr. led the team with 21 points, while freshman forward Andrew Tullis stepped up with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Saints. "We are going to keep working on shoring up our defense and being patient on offense," said Coach Baumgartner. "We need to get off to a better start." The Saints look for their first win this weekend in the Goshen College Tournament, playing Goshen at 8 p.m.
