(Notre Dame, Ind.) Four players scored in double figures as the women's basketball team rolled past St. Mary-of-the-Woods Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Pfeil Center.
Lauren Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) led the Saints with 19 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, Ind.) added 15 points and pulled down 6 rebounds while Jillian DeLucia (Fishers, Ind.) chipped in 14 points and recorded 6 steals. Megan Eve (Scottsburg, Ind.) finished with 13 points including 7-of-8 from the chartiy stripe.
The Saints built up a 12 point lead at the end of the first half and led by as many 26 points with 8 minutes remaining in the game. St. Mary's pulled within 10 points after going on a 17 - 1 run with 1:37 remaining in the game, but were unable to get any closer as Holy Cross closed out their 2010 home schedule with a 74 - 63 victory.
Holy Cross forced 32 turnovers and coverted them into 36 points. The Saints were outrebounded 48 - 35, but managed to score 42 points in the paint.
"I thought we played a pretty good game today," said Head Coach Matt Hunsberger. "We want to continue to get better defensively and I thought we did that. We were a little more consistent to day offensively and I was glad to see Megan Eve find her shooting touch again. It's a great feeling to go into the Christmas break with a win and we can look forward to the tournament at Union. "
The Saints will begin a 5 game road trip starting December 29th and 30th in Kentucky. The Saints will play Union College on the 29th and Tennessee Wesleyan on the 30th in two non-conference games at the Union College Classic.
The Bulldogs of Union College are currently ranked 24th in the nation according to the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll and Tennessee Wesleyan is currently 8 - 2 on the year.
