Women's Basketball Drops 2 Games in Kentucky

(Barbourville, Kent.) The women's basketball team played two games at the Union College Classic to end the 2010 schedule. The Sains dropped a pair of games against host Union College and Tennessee Weslyan College.
In game one the Saints took on host Union College. Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, Ind.) had a huge night with a game high 28 points and 17 rebounds. However, the Saints could not overcome a 15 point deficit with just over 8 minutes remaining in the game and eventually fell 86 - 81.
The Saints went on a late 20 - 4 run to close the gap to 4 points, but the Bulldogs managed to hold off the Saints hitting free-throws down the stretch. Lauran Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) added 14 points and 8 assists while Mary Fitzgerald (Livonia, Mich.) chipped in 12 for the Saints. Wendi Messer led Union with 27 points on the night.
In game two it was Jillian DeLucia (Fishers, Ind.) leading the Saints with 20 points and pulling down 6 rebounds. The Saints were unable to capatilize on a three point halftime lead as Weslyan put up 51 points in the second half and cruised to a 77 - 62 victory.
Malinowski and Steffen each added 11 points for the Saints. The loss drops Holy Cross to 3 - 14 on the year. The women will return to action on January 5th, against cross-town foe Indiana University South Bend. The game will be played at the Student Activities Center on the campus of IUSB. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
