(LaPorte, Ind.) The Saints had four players in double figures and they earned their second conference and first road win against Purdue North Central Wednesday evening at the LaPorte Civic Center.
The Panthers used a 6 - 0 run to start the game, but the Saints worked their way back into the game and eventually took the lead at the 13:31 mark after Zac Cook (South Bend, Ind.) hit the first of his three shots from behind the arc.
The Saints led by as many as 7 in the first half and took a 4 point lead into the break. Holy Cross came out with a quick game and great defense early in the second half and opened up a 17 point lead going on a 17 - 4 run through the first 7 minutes.
However, North Central did not go down without a fight as they pulled within 3 points with 56 seconds remaining in the game. Junior guard Justin Breveard (South Bend,Ind.) knocked down 9 freethrows in the final 44 seconds of the game as the Saints held on to a 91 - 84 victory.
"This was a good road conference win for the team," said Head Coach Bob Schermerhorn. "We were able to close out the game and hold off Purdue despite a poor night shooting from the freethrow line."
The Saints shot 42% from the field and 50% from behind the arc. However, they only shot 60% from the charity stripe on 27-of-45 shots.
Breveard led the Saints with 29 points, 7 assists, 4 steals, and 6 rebounds. Taylor Williams (South Bend, Ind.) added 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds and Adam Onderdonk (South Bend, Ind.) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds for the Saints. PNC was led by Jordan Delks with 17 points.
