(Whiting, Ind.) Coming off a disappointing loss at Cardinal Stritch University, the Saints were looking to get back on track as they concluded their 6 game road stretch against Calumet College of St. Joseph in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match-up Wednesday night.
The Saints led early in the game by as many as 3, but it was short lived as the Crimson Wave quickly took the lead from the Saints. Twice in the first half Calumet built a 7 point cushion, but the Saints responded each time with big baskets to keep the game from getting out of hand.
At the end of the first half the Saints trailed 34-30. Trading baskets early on the Saints managed to tie the game twice in the second half. Tied at 52 the Crimson Wave went on a 12-2 run that gave them a 10 point lead with 3:15 left in the game.
The late run crippled the Saints efforts as they eventually fell 71 - 60. Leading the Saints was junior forward Taylor Williams (South Bend, Ind.) with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Justin Breveard (South Bend, Ind.) added 13 and Zac Cook (South Bend, Ind.) chipped in 11 including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Leading Calumet was Roddy Richardson with 18 points.
The Saints were outrebounded on the night 32-44 and shot just under 40% from the field including 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Calumet shot just over 40% from the field and only 16% from 3-point range.
The Saints (2-17, 2-4) will finally return to the Pfeil Center this Saturday, January 15th, as they host the Trojans of Trinity International University (8-10, 3-3). Tip-off is scheduled for 3pm.
