(South Bend, Ind.) The Holy Cross men's hockey team took to their home ice for the first time since November 7th, when they hosted Jackson Community College.
Since their last home game the Saints have gone 5 - 2 on the road including an ovetime victory at Michigan - Flint University.
On Friday night the Holy Cross faithful were not disappointed as they were able to see a record setting performace as the Saints netted 16 goals which marks the highest single game goal total in program history.
Senior forward Jamie O'Conner (Carmel, Ind.) scored 3 goals in the first period to set the tone for the night including a short handed goal at the 13:32 mark. Freshman forward Sam Soukup (Stillwater, Minn.) netted 4 goals, 3 of which came in the third period.
The lone goal for Lake Superior came in the first period as Ryan Kerry scored at the 12:03 mark for the Lakers. After the Kerry goal the Saints recorded 12 straight unanswered goals and cruised to their 14th win on the year 16 - 1.
The Saints will host Lake Superior State today at 1pm at the Ice Box. Originally the Saints were scheduled to play either Delta College or University of Michigan-Flint, however both teams dropped out of the 4 team tournament.
Following Saturday's game the Saints will be back on the road next weekend to take on IPFW ina key late season match-up. IPFW is currently ranked 12th in the latest ACHA DIII North Divsison poll.
