Saints Host Four Games Over Weekend

(Niles, Mich.) The Saints baseball hosted Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opponents Purdue North Central and Cardinal Stritch at Thomas Memorial Stadium.
On Saturday, the Saints hosted the Panthers of PNC in a double header. Freshman Jackson Hallahan (Silver Lake, MN) started for the Saints giving up 10 runs 8 of which were earned. Joe Floreck recorded the win for PNC throwing 6 innings giving up 2 runs.
Dan Wawrzusin (Potomac, MD), Jackson Hallahan, and Ryan Trosko (Sandy, OR) each picked up 2 hits. Ryan Trosko and Steve Bunnell (Carlsbad, CA) each drove in a run. PNC picked up their 10th win scoring 11 on 12 hits leaving 8 runners on base. The Saints scored 2 runs on 7 hits leaving 9 on base.
In the second game, Ben Bourney (St. Joseph, MI.) started for the Saints going 4 innings giving up 7 runs and striking out two. Shane Prance picked up the second victory for the Panthers holding the Saints hitless and striking out 10.
PNC scored 13 runs on 16 hits and leaving 7 men on base. The only runners to reach base for the Saints came in the 4th inning after Trosko walked and Michael Karason (South Bend, IN) reached on an error.
After 2 losses to PNC the Saints bounced back with two games against Cardinal Stritch on Sunday. These games were make-ups from March 22nd.
In the home half of the first the Saints took an early 1 run lead. Dan Wawrzusin reached based after being hit by a pitch to lead the game off. Jackson Hallahan moved Wawrusin to second and Ryan Trosko picked up his second RBI of the weekend driving Wawrusin home on a 1 out single to center field.
Stritch came back with 2 runs in the top of the second with 3 straight singles. However, the Saints managed to tie the game in the bottom of the second on a Dan Merkle (Kalamazoo, Mich.) single to left field that drove home Ben McDonald (South Bend, IN) who reached on an error.
Stritch regained the lead and held on to it for the remainder of the game after driving home 2 runs on 2 hits in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Steve Bunnell pitched 5.1 innings striking out 7 and walking 3 batters. Justin Cooper threw a complete game striking out 7 as the Wolves took game one 8-2.
In the second game it was all Wolves as Marcus Perlberg threw a complete game 3 hitter for Stritch as they took game two 8-0. Pat Huyge (Grand Haven, Mich.) pitched 5 innings striking out 2 and walking 5 batters.
Wawrzusin, Bourney, and Jacob Wood (South Haven, Mich.) each picked up a hit. The Saints fall to 1-14 and 0-8 in the CCAC. The Saints will look to pick up their first conference wins at Robert Morris on Wednesday, March 30th. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30pm. Holy Cross will be back at home this Friday, April 1st, against Calumet College of St. Joseph for a 5pm start.
