The Student Activities Center at IUSB, the Joyce Center at Notre Dame, and St. Joseph High School have been considered "home" for the Holy Cross men's basketball team for the past three years. December 6th
, 2008 marked the first time the Saints basketball team had a place to call their own.
In their first true home game, the Saints started out strong taking an early ten point lead over visiting Concordia University Ann Arbor. The lead quickly dissolved as Concordia went on a 26 - 2 run that stretched into the second half. "We came out strong and played with a lot of emotion," said Head Coach Steve Baumgartner. "We stopped playing our game, and let Concordia control the tempo." The Saints trailed by 16 at half, shooting 31% from the field.
Despite the 74 - 52 loss, the game was historic for the entire Holy Cross community. "It was great to finally have a home court," said Athletic Director Nathan Walker. "Once our fans have the familiarity of the Pfeil Center it will be loud, and feel like a home court to everyone" Elliott Jones Jr. led the Saints with 17 points. Adam Dobrzykowski added 11 points and 9 rebounds. The Saints will travel across town to take on #2 Bethel College Tuesday evening.
