(Notre Dame, Ind.) The 2011 Great Lakes Lacrosse League Championships are set and the Saints will travel to La Crosse, Wis. to take on the host University of Wisconsin La Crosse in the quarterfinals.
Winning the South Division on April 17th, beating the University of Chicago and Lake Forest College, the Saints earned their third straight tournament trip.
"Our number one priority this year was to win the division," said Head Coach Mike Hodge. "We can now focus on the tournament and we will take it one game at a time."
Winners of the West Division the Eagles of La Crosse finished the year with a 7 - 1 record. Their only loss came against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the final day of the season.
"La Crosse is a very good team," said Coach Hodge. "They have only lost twice in the last two years. We need to come out ready to play a full 60 minutes of lacrosse."
This will be only the second meeting between the two schools. In 2009, the Saints defeated the Eagles 8 - 3 in the first round of the GLLL championships. In 2010, the Eagles took third place.
Waiting in the semifinals will either be Milwaukee or South Division runner-up University of Michigan. The Saints defeated the Wolverines 8 - 6 on March 26th.
Featured on the other side of the bracket is top seeded University of Wisconsin, UW - Platteville, Northern Illinois University, and UW - Stout.
"We have had a great season," Coach Hodge said. "However, so have the other 7 teams and they will be just as ready as we are."
The Saints finished the 2011 season with an 8 - 1 record and a perfect 7 - 0 conference record.
