(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Saints baseball team finished a busy weekend with 5 games in 3 days against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opponents Trinity Christian College and Illinois Tech.
The Saints dropped a Friday night game against the Trolls 10 - 0 in Palos Heights, Ill. On Saturday, the Saints hosted Trinity in a double header at Thomas Memorial Stadium dropping game one 16 - 1, and game two 19 - 7.
In game one the Trolls took an early 6 run lead and never looked back including a 9 run 5th inning. The Trolls scored 16 runs on 12 hits. The Saints bats remained quite. Pat Huyge recorded both hits for the Saints. In game two, the Saints put up 7 runs and battled with the Trolls throughout, but Trinity scored 9 runs in the final two innings to take game two 19 - 7.
On Sunday, the Saints traveled to Illinois Tech for two make-up games that were originally scheduled on April 27th. Tech used a 4 run first inning and took game one 10 - 4. The Saints took a 1 run lead in game two and added 3 runs in the fourth to take a 5 - 2 lead.
However, IIT exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth and retook the lead. Holy Cross was able to add a run in the top of the 7th, but Tech held on for an 8 - 6 victory.
The Saints (2-35, 1-29) will close out their 2011 regular season on Tuesday, May 3rd, against non-conference opponent Kalamazoo College. The game was originally scheduled at Thomas Memorial Stadium, but has now been moved to Kalamazoo.
