The men's basketball team dropped to 1 - 16 on the year after losing two games at the Michigan Educational Credit Union Classic at Madonna University. Leading scorer Elliott Jones Jr. did not play in either game after injuring his ankle Tuesday night at Bethel.
The Saints opened the tournament with host Madonna University Friday evening. Shooting 37% from the field, points did not come easy for the Saints. They trailed at half 46 - 17, going 6 - 21 from the field. The game ended 73 - 44, giving Madonna their second win of the year. Madonna was able to score 31 points off 25 turnovers. Zac Cook had a game high 14 points.
The Saints had to bounce back quickly to play Rochester College at noon on Saturday. Once again the Saints had trouble holding onto the ball. Rochester took advantage of 20 turnovers in the first half by opening up a 26 point lead. The Saints (1-16) fell to Rochester (10-3) 62 - 94. Mark Wilkins led the team with 18 points. Adam Dobrzykowski added 12 points and 8 rebounds. "Turnovers and the lack of offensive efficiency kept us from winning this weekend," said Head Coach Steve Baumgartner.
The Saints will travel to Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon to take on Indiana University East at the Conseco Field House.
