Women's Soccer - Mon, Sep. 5, 2011

(Ann Arbor, MI)  The women's soccer team played a pair of away matches over the weekend at Concordia University.  They played the host, Concordia University on Friday followed by a match at noon against Rochester College.

The women dropped the first game 5-2 agains the host squad, Concordia University.  The Saints had trouble dealing with the duo of Laura Beth Johnston and Paige Beracy.  Both players from Concordia had two goals and two assists a piece to lift Concordia over the visiting Saints with a 5-2 result.

There were some bright spots as Freshman Sally Allgeier (Fort Wayne, IN) scored her first career  goal as a Saint on an assist from fellow Senior Valerie Patout (New Iberia, LA) in the 53rd minute.  Sally used solid skill and struck home a header that found the back of the net. Cassandra Juarez (South Bend, IN) added her first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Karen Liddell (Granger, IN).  For Patout and Juarez it marked a second straight game in which they recorded a point.

The game was back in forth for much of the first half, but a 6 minute scoring span that started in the in the 36th minute proved to be too much for the Saints to overcome.  Erica Eniex got on the board in the 36th minute from assists from Johnston and Beracy.  That was followed by a goal a minute later from Johnston which was assisted by Beracy.  Johnston would then add another one in the 42nd minute to put Concordia up 3-0 entering the halftime break.

The Saints would get one back in the 53rd minute by the strike from Resweber, but Concordia would tally two more in the 62nd minute and the 69th minute.  Both goals would come from the boot of Beracy.  Juarez would add a late tally in the 84th minute to finish off the scoring for both teams as the game ended 5-2 in favor of Concordia.

Senior Goalkeeper Ashleigh Lemp (South Bend, IN) did her part by having 15 saves on the day, and making 11 of those saves in the second half.

The Saints would then follow that game with a game against Rochester College at noon on Saturday.  That would lose that game 6-0.  A full article and statistical analysis will be coming soon.

The Saints play again in a double header with the men against Andrews University this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men's soccer team playing at 3:00 p.m.  The games will be held out at the Indiana Invaders Complex.
