(South Bend, IN) The women's golf team played in the Battle at Blackthorn Invitational hosted by Bethel College this weekend.
The young Saints struggled but showed promise this weekend at Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana.
Bethel College won the two-day event with a (+62) team score of 638. Holy Cross placed 7th with 767 (+191).
Low round for the Saints was freshman Lexie Price (Santa Ana, California) who struggled a bit on day one with an opening 87, but came back nicely on day two with an 83 for a total of 170 (+26) and placed solo 16th overall.
Head coach Tim Holt had three more freshman in the lineup at Blackthorn and only one sophomore.
Freshman Kelsie Skipper shot 92-100 for 192 (+48) for a tie for 38th, freshman Claire Doriot shot 97-102 for 199 (+55) for solo 41st place, sophomore Victoria Anania shot 108-99 for 207 (+63) for solo 45th place, and freshman Lauren Smith shot 107-115 for 222 (+78) for solo 48th place.
Coach Holt said after the tournament: "We're still young and learning, but it's tournaments like these where we can prepare for our future...We have a good core of young players that are still adjusting to the collegiate style of play."
The Saints travel to the University of St. Francis on September 30th for their next tournament.
