Hockey Wins Two Games Over Weekend

(South Bend, IN) The Holy Cross hockey team answered some questions this weekend in pretty convincing fashion.
The South Bend Ice Box played home to the Saints in two games against Indiana University this weekend.
Game one was Friday night and the Saints scored early and often in an 8-5 victory.
Junior forward and Assistant Captain Tyler Schmatz (South Bend, Indiana) led the way for the Saints with a four point effort by netting two goals (one on the powerplay) and adding to two helpers.
Sophomore forward and Assistant Captain Brendon Gendel (South Bend, Indiana) helped out the cause with a powerplay goal and two assists of his own.
The Saints dominated most of the game, displaying an impressive offensive barrage which included eight goals on seven assists.
Also scoring for the Saints were freshman Brandon Norcutt (Yorba Linda, California) (2), junior Sean Root (Livonia, Michigan), freshman Jake Radde (Granger, Indiana), and freshman defenseman Austin Pedue (Granger, Indiana).
Senior defenseman Shane Leo (Granger, Indiana) had two assists, and Monty Ruff (Tustin, California) had another.
4 out of the 8 goals for Holy Cross came while they had a man advantage.
Sophomore goaltender Brad Hajec (Dearborn, Michigan) played all sixty minutes allowing five goals on fifty shots. He saved 45 shots, good for a save percentage of 0.900.
In game two on Saturday, the visiting Hoosiers jumped out to a large lead early, only to become a victim of a ferocious comeback by the Saints. With two goals in the last 2 minutes, the Saints pulled out the upset 7-6 against Indiana.
Sophomore Captain Tommy Lyons (Valparaiso, Indiana) had a three-point game, netting a goal and dealing out two helpers.
Forward Brendon Gendel added another goal and two more assists, and sophomore Drew Brodbeck (Stillwater, Minnesota) also had three points on a goal and two assists.
Sean Root did his part by recording two goals and fourteen penalty minutes.
Shane Leo and Sam Soukup (Stillwater, Minnesota) added a goal apiece, and assists were made by Stephen Stetz (Uniontown, Ohio), Norcutt, Ruff, and Pedue (2).
Shawn Tallet (Baldwinsville, New York) was between the pipes for the Saints, making twenty-nine saves on thirty-five shots in forty minutes. He allowed six goals for a save percentage of 0.829.
The Saints are 2-0, and look towards their next game, October 8th at Adrian College at 7:00 PM.
