Men's Soccer Setback By Trolls
Men's Soccer - Sun, Oct. 16, 2011
(South Bend, Indiana) The Trinity Christian College Trolls (9-3-2 (4-2 CCAC)) visited the Indiana Invaders Complex Saturday afternoon for a match-up against the Saints.
The Saints were looking to earn a victory against one of the top teams in the CCAC Saturday afternoon and put themselves in a good position to do so during the first half.
The Saints kept the pressure on the Trolls in the first half by firing six shots on goal, and stopping all eleven of the Trolls attempts. The first half was an even back-and-forth game, which ultimately would end too even: 0-0.
"I was happy we kept a good team off the scoreboard the entire first half", said head coach Rhett Zych after the game, "I felt like we played pretty well in the first period, and avoided any costly mistakes."
The Trolls spoiled any thoughts of a 0-0 tie just 21 seconds into the 2nd period off a goal by Joey Behena. The Saints ran into a bit of bad luck in the 55th minute when goalkeeper Damian Marciniak (Michigan City, Indiana) was given a red card on a very questionable call while going for the ball deep in the Saints' zone.
"To the best of my knowledge Damian did not do anything wrong, but sometimes things like this happen", remarked Zych. What did happen crippled the Saints the rest of the way because they had to play a man down for the rest of the game, which was roughly 35 minutes.
Junior Robert Campos (La Ceiba, Honduras) filled in for Marciniak, giving up three goals the rest of the way while recording three saves. Marciniak gave up one goal and saved eight in 54 minutes.
The Saints could not find the back of the net, and fell 4-0 to the Trolls.
The Saints look to bounce back at home October 18th at 4:00 PM against Calumet College of Saint Joseph at the Indiana Invaders Complex.
