(Notre Dame, Indiana) The Holy Cross men's basketball team starts the new season Wednesday at 7:30 PM against the cross-town rival Bethel College Pilots.
Bethel holds a 5-0 advantage on the Saints, but recent contests have become very competitive and this year's contest is no exception.
This year's match-up comes exactly one year to the day after the Pilots squeaked out a 68-57 victory in the Pfeil Center. The Saints were toe-to-toe with the Pilots in the second half, but Bethel made shots down the stretch to sink the Saints in the final minutes.
This time around, returning 2nd Team All-CCAC forward Taylor Williams and his senior-led team are determined to earn a victory against their cross-town rival. A victory over a powerhouse like Bethel College at home would mean a lot to the graduating seniors J.T. Breveard, Zac Cook, Andrew Tullis, Adam Onderdonk, and Adam Dobryzkowski.
Coach Horn believes his seniors would love to have a victory over the cross-town arch-rival Pilots, but he stated his team needed to take this season one game at time, "We have guys from Clay High School, Riley, and Penn that have been here for years that have never beaten Bethel, and this would be huge for not only them, but for the program."
The seniors will have all the motivation they need, and paired with newcomers junior transfer Yama Kader, and freshman Alajowon Edwards and Darrell McIntyre, they are deep and talented. This game will be a battle down to the final second in either team has their say about it. "This is a great measuring stick of where we are as a team," said Horn, "We hope we can have a strong outing and set the tone for the season."
The students are highly urged to wear all black for the BLACKOUT Wednesday night at the Pfeil Center. The tip is at 7:30 PM.
