Scratched from the lineup hours before game time, the Saints were without freshman standout Elliot Jones Jr. due to an ankle sprain suffered earlier in the week. Holy Cross welcomed Andrews University (Berrien Springs, MI), Saturday evening at the Pfeil Center.
Points did not come easy for the Saints, shooting only 36% from the field and 17% from behind the arc they found themselves down early in the game. The Saints went on a 9 -3 run to end the first half and kept the game under control.
The second half opened much like the first as both teams traded baskets. A 3 ball by junior Sean Dillon (Altoona, PA) with 12 minutes remaining pulled the Saints within 4 points of Andrews. However, Andrews would not let the lead slip away and converted free throws down the stretch to extend their lead. Andrew Tullis (Orland, IN) led the Saints with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Jeff Appleman (Indianapolis, IN) contributed 8 points and 10 rebounds, but the Saints fell to Andrews 60 - 53.
"We had a lot of open looks, but the ball wasn't dropping for us tonight," said Head Coach Steve Baumgartner. "We were looking to move the ball around and create open shots both at the bucket and away from it."
The Saints will travel across town to take on NAIA division I Indiana University South Bend Wednesday evening. The Titans are coming off two consecutive conference wins against Illinois Institute of Technology and Saint Xavier University. Elliott Jones Jr. is questionable for the game.
