(Palos Heights, Illinois) The women's basketball team was in action Wednesday night as they traveled west to face the Trolls representing Trinity Christian College.
CCAC play opened up Wednesday night for the women's basketball team, as they visited the Trinity Christian College Trolls. This was also the conference opener for the Trolls, who opened their non-conference play to the tune of a 4-6 record.
The Saints set the tone for the contest early, jumping out to a lead of 14 points at the 6:28 mark in the opening period, as Holy Cross took a 34-27 advantage into the locker room at the half.
The Trolls responded well to their halftime pep-talk, as the hosts outscored the Saints 47-29 in the second period to pull away. TCC turned a 7-point deficit into an 11-point lead midway through the second half, and the Trolls never looked back, topping the Saints 74-63.
The Saints (1-9 (0-1 CCAC)) got a ton of production out of sophomore Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, Indiana), who scored a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds and added 4 helpers and 3 blocks as well.
The Trolls had two players with double-doubles and three players scoring in double figures, which was more than the Saints could overcome late in the second half. The Saints forced 28 TCC turnovers - good for 26 points - and shot a respectable 35% from the field for the game, but made just 31% of their attempts from the free-throw line.
The Saints return home this Saturday at 1:00 PM to continue the CCAC schedule, facing the Judson University Eagles at McKenna Arena.
Students are encouraged to "Blackout the Pfeil" by wearing all black attire and watch the game from the 'Halo' a.k.a track.
