(Lansing, Michigan) The Saints traveled to Michigan Monday night to visit the Crusaders of Great Lakes Christian College. Holy Cross won the first ever meeting between the two teams in overtime on November 11th, 83-77.
The Saints were locked into a tight game with the Crusaders in the first half until freshman Zoe Bauer (Culver, Indiana) came off the bench and sunk four consecutive 3-point baskets, opening up the game in favor of the Saints.
Holy Cross rode the momentum and took a 57-34 lead into halftime. The Crusaders were never a threat in the second half, as Holy Cross went on to to score another 54 points and set a school record for most in a game with 111.
Bauer finished with a career-high 17 points and made all 5 of his 3-point attempts. Junior shooting guard Yama Kader (Mission Viejo, California) led all scorers with 29 points, and senior Taylor Williams (South Bend, Indiana) recorded his sixth double-double on 24 points and 18 rebounds. Senior J.T. Breveard (South bend, Indiana) added 15.
"It was a great win for the team", coach Schermerhorn remarked after the game, "The guys played well together and made the right decisions...I was glad we earned ourselves a W to give us some momentum as we head back into conference play."
The win improves Holy Cross' record to 3-9, as the Saints prepare to return to CCAC play on the road against Purdue Calumet December 17th. The Saints closed out a three game non-conference trip against highly ranked Davenport University, local rival and perennial powerhouse Bethel College, and against the Crusaders last night.
The next Saints return home on December 28th, against Brescia College. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
