(Notre Dame, Ind).- Elkhart Central High School Senior, John "Jack" Bernacchi, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next season for the Holy Cross College Saints.
Bernacchi, a 5'11", 175-pound left-handed hitter and right-handed first baseman, is a 2012 MLB Draft Prospect listed on www.MLBDraftGuide.com.
Bernacchi's play at first base during his junior campaign led to his naming to the All Conference Northern Indiana Conference First Team in 2011. He starred as the clean-up hitter for Head Coach Steve Stutsman's Elkhart Central Blue Blazers the past two seasons which helped lead his team to a 26-6 season, Sectional Championship, and Region Semi Final win against Lake Central HS. Jack was a junior participant in the Indiana North South High School All-Star Series.
He is an invitee to the Preseason All-American Top 100 Showcase, scheduled to be held in Phoenix, Arizona January 14th-15th, 2012. Bernacchi participated in American Legion 19U Baseball with Bristol Post 143, Dominican Baseball the past two years in Boca Chica, DR, and was a two year participant with the Under Armour National Team/Baseball Factory Events. He has played travel baseball with several clubs since 9 years old.
When he lived in Utah he attended development programs at the Utah Baseball Academy. Perfect Game Cross Checkers rated him as a D1, NAIA, or D2 prospect before he was a freshman in high school. Since that time, Bernacchi has transformed his body into that of trained baseball athlete through his dedication and hard work.His passion and knowledge of baseball is respected by all who have coached him or against him.
Bernacchi is also a committed student in the classroom. He is by all measures a talented writer and has made the honor roll during his junior and senior years of high school, and maintains a B+ average.Head Coach Sutula has followed Bernacchi's on field play for some years and sees him a "Blue Chip" recruit for the 2016 class.
Bernacchi is the son of Susan and Doug Bernacchi. Jack has a twin brother, William, and was joined at his signing by his brother, Tommy, his sister Annie, and his Grandparents Patricia and Peter Bernacchi of La Porte, IN.
