(St. Charles, MO), The Saints table tennis club finished in a three way tie for first place at the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association Regional tournament. The tournament marked the first intercollegiate competition for the club.
The first event of the day saw the Saints take on the University of Illinois. After 4 singles matches, the teams were tied, 2-2, with the tie to be broken by one doubles match. In that match, brothers Gordy and Joey Cochran took down the Illini 3 games to 0 to claim the team victory for Holy Cross.
The Saints followed this with wins over St. Louis University (4-1), Southern Illinois (4-1), and Washington University of St. Louis (3-2). Also scoring key victories for the Saints were Patrick Huyge and Romulo Nobrega.
In the final match of the day, the Saints fell to host Lindenwood University (4-1). Despite the loss to the Saints, the University of Illinois placed first, and will represent the Midwest Region at the NCTTA National Championship at Rochester, MN in April.
Joey Cochran of the Saints table tennis club will be putting on an exhibition during half time of the men's basketball game this Wednesday. The Saints will be taking on Indiana University South Bend at 7pm.
