(Notre Dame, IN)  The Holy Cross Women's Basketball Team took on the visiting Trojans of Trinity International today in their final game of the regular season.

The Saints battled hard, but came up short in the end losing to the visiting Trojans 86-74.

The Saints started out slow as Trinity International opened up a 12-3 lead early on in the first half.  After a timeout, the Saints rallied to cut the lead to four points midway through the first half.  Trinity International pushed back a bit jumping the lead back up to twelve points with the score 28-16 with just under 9 minutes remaining.

The Saints then closed out strong cutting the lead to four points, but a three pointer at the buzzer by the Trojans put the lead at seven points with with the score 37-30 heading into the locker room.

"I thought we had to do a better job of not turning the ball over.  We had way too many unforced errors, and it led to many easy buckets for them," said Head Coach Aimee Litka.

Sophomore Megan Eve (Scotsburg, IN) went 3-4 from the three point in the first half for a team high 11 points.  Freshman Maggie Gondeck (Michigan City, IN) netted six points in the half as well.

The Saints came out strong in the first two minutes of the second half.  They went on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to two points with just over eighteen minutes remaining in the game.

Trinity International showed strong poise in not letting the momentum completely shift over to Holy Cross.  The Saints never got closer to two points, and the Trojans pushed the lead up to as many as fifteen in the remainder of the game.  In the end, the Saints lost their final regular season game 86-74 to the visiting Trojans of Trinity International.

"We just couldn't get over that hump in the second half.  Every time we made a run to get closer, Trinity International would respond with a run of their own.  I am very proud of our women this regular season they worked very hard.  We aren't done yet as I am very confident that we will do in the the conference tournament coming up," said Coach Litka.

Junior Lauren Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, MI) led the Saints with 22 points on the day.  Sophomore Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, IN) had a great game scoring 18 points, and grabbing 9 rebounds.  Eve finished off the day scoring 15 points.

The Saints finish the season 9-21, and 4-8 in the CCAC.  Nine wins in the regular season and four wins in the conference are records for a season. The Saints play their next game at Judson at 6:30 p.m.  The game is a CCAC quarterfinal game, and it should be a good one as Holy Cross split two games with Judson earlier in the season.
