Freshman Gio Ayala continues his strong play this season going 2-4 with an rbi in the game one loss against PNC.

(Notre Dame, IN)  The Holy Cross Baseball Team went on the road to take on the Panthers of Purdue North Central over the weekend.

The first game was a nail biting pitcher's duel as the Saints dropped a close one 2-1 after beating the Panthers the previous day at Coveleski Stadium.  The second game of the double-header proved to be a bit more challenging as Holy Cross dropped game two 17-8 to the host Panthers.

Sophomore Steve Bunnell (Carlsbad, CA) pitched a solid first game pitching 6 innings allowing five hits, three walks, and two earned runs.  Unfortunately, the Saints could not muster up anymore run support as they only posted one run in the loss for Bunnell.

Freshman Gio Ayala (Miami, FL) went 2-3 in the game, and had the Saints only RBI.  The Saints were plagued all game by leaving people on base as they had 11 hits, but still only scored one run.

In game two the Saints had bad innings in the fourth and fifth inning that was just too much to overcome down the stretch in the 17-8 loss to the host Panthers.  Freshman Michael Pizzuto (Sarasota, FL) went 3-4 in the game with three runs batted in.  Sophomore Ben Bournay (St. Joseph, MI) had a solid game for the Saints going 2-4 with 2 runs batted in on the day.

The Saints are now 3-13 and 1-2 in the CCAC.  Their next game is at home tomorrow against Illinois Tech at Coveleski Stadium.  The game is double-header and the first pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
