(Notre Dame, IN) The Holy Cross Baseball Team took on the Judson Eagles who are the top team in the South Division of the CCAC today at Coveleski Stadium.
In game one the Saints put up a strong test for the visiting Eagles, and even out hit them for the game. The game was tied at 2-2 going into the sixth inning, but the Saints allowed three runs in that inning, and it propelled the visiting Eagles to a 5-2 victory in the first game of the doubleheader tonight.
Freshman Andrew Salazar (Tucson, Arizona) pitched a solid game going four and two thirds innings, and allowing two hits, 2 earned runs, two walks, and he struck six Judson batters on the day. Junior Daniel Wawrzusin (Potomac, Maryland) and sophomore Ben Bournay (St. Joseph, Michigan) each went 1 for 3 with an rbi on the day.
In the second game of the doubleheader the game was close over the first three innings as Judson led 3-0 heading into the fourth inning. The Eagles rattled off three more runs to the Saints one run over the next two innings to open up a 6-1 lead heading into the sixth inning. Judson put the game away by scoring seven runs in the last inning that pushed the score to it's final 13-2.
Freshman Calib Wininger (Kokomo, Indiana) got the start in game two. He pitched four innings giving up six hits, four earned runs, and 3 walks on the evening.
Sophomore Jackson Hallahan (Silver Lake, Minnesota) and Bournay went two for three in game two of the doubleheader, and freshman Michael Tibbits (Plymouth Michigan) went one for two with one rbi on the evening.
The Saints are now 2-8 in the CCAC and 4-19 overall. They play a doubleheader at home against Kalamazoo College at Boehm Park on Sunday April 1st at 1:00 p.m.
