(Notre Dame, IN) The Holy Cross Baseball Team took on the visiting Saints of Saint Francis this weekend in a CCAC doubleheader.
In the first game Holy Cross evened it up at 1-1 through one inning, but St. Francis scored nine runs over the next six innings to beat Holy Cross 10-3.
In the second game the Saints had trouble getting on base as they were only able to get four hits in the second game. The St. Francis pitching stymied Holy Cross all game to a 7-2 victory.
The Saints battled hard from behind the plate, but just could not keep Saint Francis from crossing the plate consistently. Saint Francis scored a run in every inning but the third, and that gave them the momentum to a 10-3 victory over Holy Cross.
Sophomore lead-off hitter Jackson Hallahan (Silver Lake, MN) went two for four, and junior Daniel Wawrzusin went two for three to lead Holy Cross from behind the plate.
Freshman Josh Schuller (Elkhart, IN) pitched four innings allowing seven hits, four earned runs and five walks. Freshman Riley Reinholt (Warsaw, IN) pitched one inning of no hit relief in the game as well.
In the second game of the doubleheader sophomore Steve Bunnell's (Carlsbad, CA) two run double in the bottom of the sixth inning was the only runs that Holy Cross could muster up as they only had four hits on the day.
Bunnell finished one for three with two runs batted in, and Hallahan and Wawrzusin also went one for three on the day.
Freshman Shane Arnold (Kokomo, IN) pitched a solid game going five innings and allowing five hits, 4 runs (two were earned), and two walks on the game.
The Saints are now 5-25 overall on the season, and 2-13 in the CCAC. Their next game is Wednesday April 11th against Roosevelt University at Kennedy Park in South Bend. The game is CCAC doubleheader, and first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
