(Notre Dame, IN) The Holy Cross Baseball Team took on the visiting Lakers of Roosevelt today in a double header at Kennedy Park.
Both games came down to ferocious comebacks in the bottom of the seventh inning by the Saints. In the first game, the Saints were down 4-2 heading into the final half inning. They were able to score three runs, and win in dramatic fashion 5-4.
In the second game, the Saints were down 5-1 heading in the bottom half of the seventh inning. A three run homer by sophomore Jackson Hallahan (Silver Lake, MN) cut the lead to 5-4 with no outs in the inning. The Lakers, however, were able to get the next three batters out, and hold on for a 5-4 decision in their favor in the night cap at Kennedy Park.
Freshman Giovannia Ayala (Miami, FL) went 2 for 3 with an rbi, and freshman catcher Blake Comella (Glendale, AZ) went 2 for 2 on the day with two runs batted in the first game. Comella also had the game winning rbi in the bottom of the seventh as he was walked with the bases loaded.
Senior Patrick Huyge (Grand Haven, MI) pitched a complete game in the win, allowing seven hits, one earned run, two walks, and he struck out six.
Hallahan went 2 for 3 with three runs batted in on a three run homer in the bottom of the seventh to make a four run deficit one run with no outs in the final stanza. Freshman Michael Pizzuto (Sarasota, FL) went 1 for 4 with the other rbi on the day.
Sophomore Steve Bunnell pitched a quality game going six and two thirds innings. He allowed nine hits, two earned runs, three walks, and had a school record nine strikeouts on the day.
Holy Cross is now 6-26 on the season and 3-14 in the CCAC. Their next game is at home at Kennedy Park (Old Bendix Park) on Friday April 13th at 2:00 p.m. against Trinity Christian.
