Hugo Castro joins the Saints from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. A 5'6 defender/fullback combo player, Hugo is a product of the American School of Belo Horizonte where he played and started all four years of high school. Hugo is a strong, solid and ambidextrous defender who has played every position as a defender for the EABH Hawks. Ending his high school career on a high note, Hugo was named the EABH Hawks boy's soccer most improved player for the 2011-2012 season.
Hugo will also bring a strong academic background to Holy Cross as he has maintained a 3.25 GPA throughout high school. WIth the combination of his athletic and academic merits, Hugo served as a role model to his teammates, and helped the EABH Hawks win back to back International Schools Sports League champions. Hugo is the son of Andre and Eliane Castro and has two siblings: Marina and Marco. He plans to pursue a degree in business administration at Holy Cross.
Finn Hartel joins the Saints program from Uhingen, Germany. "Finn is the type of versatile offensive player that we have been searching for," said head coach Omar Gallo. "His versatility will allow us to play him on either side of the wing, and even up top. He's an all-around soccer player with great touch on the ball." Finn also brings academic success to Holy Cross as he has maintained over a 3.0 GPA throughout his high school career. "Finn is just a natural good kid and athlete," said coach Omar. "His presence will be a blessing for our team both on and off the field. Finn is a player that I strongly believe will become a leader the minute he steps on campus."
Local standout goal keeper, Victor Navarro, from James W. Riley High school in South Bend, has decided to continue his soccer career for the Saints. "Victor's presence will be known on the field," said coach Omar. "His ability to lead from the back and communicate with his teammates will help sure up and organize our back line. His quickness and aggressiveness in the box is exactly what we need from the goal keeper position, and we are very excited about the addition of Victor. We expect him to come in and set the bar high from day one."
Alberto Marchi joins the Saints program from Hudson, Ohio where he attended Hudson High School. "Alberto demonstrates the traits of a true forward," said coach Omar. "He loves to shoot, gets in the right place at the right time, can hold the ball up top, and even beat you one on one. Alberto will have a big impact right away for our program, and will provide us with the goal scoring that is needed this season."
Coach Omar Gallo is pleased with the type of players he has been able to add so far this off-season. "I feel that we added four players who are going to help us this upcoming season. All four bring different strengths to our returning team. I believe that this group is going to help us move the program forward this upcoming year."
