Coach Omar Gallo with the Winstars Soccer Academy signees.
Men's Soccer - Mon, Jul. 23, 2012

(Notre Dame, IN) Holy Cross College men's soccer coach Omar Gallo is pleased to announce the signing of three Winstars Soccer Academy players. Connor Simpson, Troy Padgett, and Vince Marcello will continue their education and soccer careers with the Saints beginning this upcoming 2012 season.

Connor Simpson, a recent graduate of Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Ontario, is an athletic defensive-minded midfielder. "We feel that Connor has the ability to come in and make an impact in the league right away," stated head coach Omar Gallo. "With his height, size, and strength, he will be able to make his presence known on the field. Connor is a versatile player who will not only be able to play as a defensive midfielder, but he will also provide depth for our back line. We are very excited about the addition of Connor." Connor also brings academic successes to Holy Cross as he has maintained a 3.0 GPA over his high school career.

Troy Padgett joins the Saints from Central Peel Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. "Troy is one of the most fit soccer players I have ever seen on the pitch," said head coach Omar Gallo. "His ability to run up and down the pitch for 90 minutes will provide us with the fitness we were lacking last season. Not only does he have the ability to run all game, he also has the ability to do so while carrying the ball. His speed and ball control together will help us in the attacking third this season, and in turn will provide us with more offensive chances that are greatly needed."

Vince Marcello is a graduate of St. Marguerite D'yuoville High School in Brampton, Ontario. "Vince is the type of player who possesses the ability to make runs from the back and attack," said head coach Omar Gallo. "Although he may not be the biggest on the defense, he will certainly play with great strength. His willingness and desire to never give up on the play until his team gains possession is a trait we are excited to add to the team. Vince is the type of player we are looking for to help solidify our back line. He will set the bar high for our defenders with his strong, physical, and smart play."

The signing of the Winstars Academy trio adds to the already strong class head coach Omar Gallo has assembled for the 2012 season. "I'm very excited about all three of these signings," coach Omar Stated. "The Winstars Soccer Academy is a well-known program in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Coach Graham is a well-known individual who has helped many players receive soccer scholarships all across North America. His training and preparation regimen is at a level that helps better prepare his players for the collegiate level. Three years ago we recruited Niko Jelicic from his program and he is now serving as our team captain. That just tells you the type of quality players that coach Graham has been able to produce."

The Saints will open up the 2012 season against cross-town rival Bethel College on Saturday, August 18th at the Toyota Center in Chicago, Illinois. The game is set to kick-off at 5:00 p.m. EST.
