(Notre Dame, Ind.) On Saturday, August 18th the Saints will travel to Chicago, Illinois for a match with the Bethel College Pilots at Toyota Park, home of the Major Leauge Soccer team Chicago Fire. The match is part of the 2012 Soccer Fever with the Chicago Fire, and has a full day of events.
The match against the Pilots will be the first one for the Saints during the 2012 campaign under first year head coach Omar Gallo. Coming off a 4-11-1 season in 2011, the Saints look to continue to climb the ladder in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). Returning its top two scorers from 2011 (Delgado, Grant), paired with a strong recruiting class, the Saints feel they're on the right track to doing so. "With a strong core of the team returning, combined with the recruits we were able to bring in, I can promise that we will compete in every game," said coach Gallo.
For the Saints, this will be there first match against the Pilots varsity squad since the team was formed in the 2007-08 season. Over the course of the programs history, the Saints tied the Pilots JV squad in 2008, and beat the reserves squad twice in 2010.
The Pilots, led by fifth year head coach Thiago Pinto, are coming off a 12-6-1 season where they finished second in the Crossroads League. Coach Pinto owns a career record of 56-20-3 with a winning percentage of .709 at Bethel. Their 2011 season ended on penalty kicks in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament after 110 minutes of scoreless soccer to Grace College. Bethel opens up their season on Wednesday, August 15th.
