(Marion, Ind.) The Holy Cross Saints men's soccer team concluded their weekend series of the IWU/Taylor Classic with a 3-2 loss to Indiana Wesleyan Saturday night.

The Saints found themselves shorthanded early as freshmen Simon Soto (South Bend, Ind.) was kicked out of the game with an early red card. However, the Saints once again got on the board first Saturday night with a goal from junior captain Niko Jelicic (Sucuraj, Croatia) in the 38th minute of the first half. Holy Cross went into the half with a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats.

Connor Simpson (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) netted the 2nd goal of the game for the Saints at the 64th minute which gave the Saints their largest lead of the game at 2-0.

Late in the 2nd half the man down began to hurt the Saints. Indiana Wesleyan rallied off 3 straight goals in the final 8 minutes, including the game winner in the 88th minute.

"We're a young team and it definitely showed this weekend," said Saints head coach Omar Gallo. "We need to learn to keep our composure during these situations. There are no excuses for losing like this, and it happened twice this weekend."

The Saints dropped two nail biter games to two solid programs this weekend, but coach sees progress with how the team is playing.

"If there's one positive out of this weekend's losses it's that we played with two top 25 programs," said coach Omar Gallo. "We were in both of these games this weekend; now the next thing we need to work on is finishing off these games. There are plenty of things for us to work on, and I expect us to learn from this and be better for it down the road."

The Saints will resume play on Tuesday, September 11th at home vs. Andrews University at 5:00pm EST.
