(Chicago, Ill.) The Holy Cross Saints men's soccer team opened up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday night in Chicago, Illinois where they took on the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks. In a very tough and physical match, which included 36 combined fouls by both teams, the Saints fell in overtime 3-2 off a late penalty kick goal by the Scarlet Hawks.

Thomas Hendzel (Lisle, Ill.) got the saints the early 1-0 lead off a pass from Captain Niko Jelicic (Sucuraj, Croatia) at the 24th minute.

Shortly after the Saints took a 1-0, the Scarlet Hawks answered back with a goal from Robert Rixer.

The Saints went into the half tied at 1 with the Scarlet Hawks.

In the 68th minute, Simon Soto (South Bend, Ind.) gave the Saints their second lead of the game, with his 2nd goal of the season.

Once again, the Scarlet Hawks fought back and scored the game's tying goal in the 89th minute to send the game to overtime.

During overtime, Illinois Tech. was awarded a late penalty kick which Liam Barrett capitalized on to give the Scarlet Hawks their first lead of the game, and the ultimate decision, a 3-2 overtime win.

Freshmen goalkeeper Victor Navarro (South Bend, Ind.) recorded 10 saves for the Saints, while Simon Soto recorded a team high 4 shots on goal.

The lost drops the Saints to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. All 4 Saints losses have come on the road.

Holy Cross will look to keep their 3-game home winning streak alive on Tuesday, September 25th as they take on the 12th ranked Robert Morris University Eagles at 5:00pm EST.
