(South Bend, Ind.) The Holy Cross men's golf team finished the two day tournament in 3rd place at the Battle at Blackthorn. After holding a 3rd place position after the first day, the Saints were able to continue their solid play to add another top 3 finish to the fall season.
The Saints were able to gain a lot of production from the five team players participating in the tournament as they had four players who shot in the 70's both days, and all five shooting in the 70's on day two.
Matthew Code (Belleville, Ontario, Canada) led the Saints over the course of the tournament with a tournament total of 151 (76, 75) which garnered him a top 10 finish (T9th).
Senior Captain Mike Prior (Schoolcraft, Mich.) finished just outside the top 10. Scoring a tournament total of 152 (77, 75), Prior finished tied for 11th and tied with Code for the Saints low score of round two.
Chris Noble (Niles, Mich.) and Michael Fitzgerald (Flossmoor, Mich.) both tallied tournament totals of 154 for the Saints. Noble had a team low 75 on the first day followed by a 79 on day two. Fitzgerald went 78 on day one followed by a 76 on day two.
Noble and Fitzgerald's scores were good enough for an 18th place finish for the tournament.
The Saints final participant, Cody Richardson (Howe, Ind.), finished the tournament with a score of 161 (82, 79) which was good enough for a 41st place finish.
The 3rd place finish for the Saints men's golf team is their 2nd top 3 finish so far this season.
Holy Cross will return to action on October 1st and 2nd for a tournament at Saint Francis University in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
