(Chicago, Ill.) The Holy Cross Saints women's soccer team fell to the Cougars of Saint Xavier 4-0 over the weekend in their latest Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match. The loss for the Saints brings their overall record to 1-10-1 (0-6-1 CCAC) on the season.
A tough 1st half had the Saints on their toes defensively. The Cougars outshot the Saints 11-1 in the period with 8 coming on goal. It wasn't until the 36th minute when the 1st goal was scored for Saint Xavier.
Saints goalkeeper, Aileen Clouse (Beavercreek, Ohio), finished the half stopping 7 of the 8 shots she faced. The Saints went into the half only trailing 1-0.
"I thought Aileen did a great job keeping us in the game in over the course of the 1st half," stated Saints head coach Carlos Reynolds.
The 2nd half proved to be a stronger half for the Cougars. They added 3 more goals to their 1-0 halftime lead, and continued to outshoot the Saints. In the 2nd half, Saint Xavier outshot the Saints 14-0 bringing the game total to a 25-1 advantage for the Cougars.
Mayte Carillo Benavides (Chicago, Ill.) finished the game with the only shot for the Saints.
Aileen Clouse finished the game with 14 saves on the 18 shots on goal she faced.
The Saints will continue Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play at home on Wednesday, October 17th against the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University. Kick-off is set for 2:00pm EST.
