(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Holy Cross Saints women's soccer team continued Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Wednesday afternoon against the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University.
Cardinal Stritch was able to strike early and often over the course of the 1st half. In the 18th minute of action, Katie Michel gave the Wolves an early 1-0 lead off of a feed from Theresa Le.
Over the course of the next 13 minutes, the Wolves extended their lead to 5-0.
The Saints 1st half struggles were displayed with the disparity in shots. After one, the Saints were outshot 9-2.
The 2nd half of play went much better for the Saints on both the offensive and defensive ends. The defense was able to keep the ball out of their half of the field, while the offense was operating very efficiently.
While they were unable to put any of their shots away, the consistency the offense showed over the 2nd half was very promising.
"I was very impressed with how we came out in the 2nd half," stated head coach Carlos Reynolds. "The 1st half was definitely tough on us, but we came out aggressive and had a number of opportunities. The girls never gave up, and I'm very proud of how they performed on both offense and defense in the 2nd half."
The Saints outshot the Wolves in the 2nd half 8-4, and only trailed 13-10 at the end of the game.
Mayte Carillo Benavides (Chicago, Ill.) led the Saints with 5 shots over the course of the game.
Goalkeeper, Aileen Clouse (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished the game with 3 saves.
The Saints will continue conference play on the road against the Trolls of Trinity Christian College on Saturday, October 20th. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm EST.
The next home match for the Saints will be on Saturday, October 27th against the 20th ranked Judson Eagles. The match is set to begin at 1:00pm EST.
