Coming off a big win this past Saturday over Roosevelt University, the Saints baseball team looked to carry their momentum Monday afternoon at Grace College.

For the second straight game the Holy Cross Saints got a strong pitching performance and played nearly flawless defense, but unlike Saturday's game against Roosevelt University, the Saints' offense came up empty time and time again, scoring only one late-inning run on a hit batter, wild pitch, and RBI single losing 4-1 in a 9-inning game to the Grace College Lancers at Miller Field in Winona Lake on Monday, March 30.
Ed Reardon threw hard and got help from his defense when he needed it giving up just one run to the Lancers through the first 5 innings, while stranding 4 runners. Grace got to Reardon with 2 runs in the 6th on a single, a walk, another single, and a sacrifice fly and 1 more in the seventh on back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. It was the Saints' usually potent offense (averaging 6.5 runs per game) that managed only 3 hits against the Lancers two right-handers, doubles by Reardon and Michael McMahon, and an RBI single by Chris Lushis in the eighth.
The Saints hope to rebound when they travel to Fort Wayne on Saturday, April 4 for a doubleheader against the JV of University of St. Francis, the first game to start at 1:00pm.
