(Notre Dame, Ind.) Fresh off the most successful season in program history, three Holy Cross Saints men's soccer members were awarded for their hard work and success on the field during the 2012 season.
Junior Captains Niko Jelicic (Sucuraj, Croatia) and Garbhan Grant (Letterkenny, Ireland), along with head coach Omar Gallo, were individually awarded this season with invitations to the 2012 Tourbeau College Soccer Showcase in Orange Beach, Alabama from December 3rd-7th.
The showcase is a unique opportunity for the top college soccer players in the United States and Canada to participate in a week long "training camp" atmosphere in front of the top professional and professional development clubs from around the world including the MLS, USL, NASL, PDL and NPSL and other international top flights (Tourbeau Sports Group).
Consisting of around 350 athletes invited to the camp, Jelicic and Grant were selected as two of the top 80 players in the NAIA to attend.
Saints first year head coach Omar Gallo was selected as one of the seven top coaches in the nation to bring along to help train all of the athletes.
Along with the invite to the Tourbeau Showcase, junior Captain Niko Jelicic (Sucuraj, Croatia) was named to the 2012 1st Team All-CCAC team voted by the coaches in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The notary for Jelicic is the first time a men's soccer player at Holy Cross has been named to an all-league team.
"This is a very proud moment for myself and for all the players and individuals associated with Holy Cross men's soccer," said head coach Omar Gallo. "The tremendous work that Niko and Garbhan have done this year to help make my first year as head a memorable one was incredible. As Captains, they're two of the players that the team looks up to. I think they set a great example this year, and I'm very proud that they're being recognized for their successes."
"I'm also very thankful for being given the opportunity to represent the coaches at this combine," continued coach Gallo. "It's very rewarding knowing the hard work and determination that I put in was recognized across the nation."
During the 2012 season, Jelicic and Grant each produced 9 points on the season for the Saints on their way to their first conference play-off appearance.
The Holy Cross Athletics Department would like to congratulate all three individuals on their tremendous honors to represent Holy Cross College at the 2012 Tourbeau College Soccer Showcase.
