(Notre Dame, IN) In a premiere season filled with firsts, the 2008 - 2009 Holy Cross College men's basketball program obtained another "first" as Mark Wilkins (Chicago, IL) and Elliott Jones Jr. (Hazel Crest, IL) received NAIA division II all-conference honors for the Association of Independent Institutions (AII).
Averaging 9 points per game Mark Wilkins led the young Saints on and off the court throughout the year. Playing in 26 games Wilkins shot 45% from the field, and pulled down nearly 5 rebounds per game as a guard. In the conference tournament against Johnson & Wales (CO), Wilkins recorded a double- double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Freshman Elliott Jones Jr. led the Saints in scoring averaging 18.59 points per game. Jones recorded 20 or more points 12 times including a 30 point outburst against Daemen College on November, 15th. Jones also averaged 4.68 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
