(Chicago, Ill.) The Saints took the floor in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday evening closing out their season series with the Roosevelt Lakers in the new Lillian and Larry Goodman Center. After a four-point halftime Saints lead the Lakers rallied in the second half to defeat the Saints 86-80 and taking the season series 2-0.

The Saints offense was fueled in the first half by junior Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, Ind.) and senior Lauren Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) who combined for 21 of the Saints 46 first half points.

After an early 3-0 lead, the Lakers took control for most of the half until the Saints retook the lead following two Steffen free-throws at the 4:39 mark. The Saints were able to extend their lead to as many as seven points before Erica Jordan cut the lead to four right before the half.

Second chance points (13) and bench scoring (16) proved to be extremely effective for the Saints as they led both categories over the Lakers.

After giving way to their first half lead just four minutes into the second half, the Saints offense turned in a 16-to-6 run to build their largest lead of the contest at 64-55.

The Lakers, however, were quick to respond with their own 12-to-2 run over the next two minutes to overtake the Saints lead. The Saints were unable to overcome this run and fell to the Lakers 86-80 dropping the season series.

Lindsey Steffen paced the way for the Saints with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists while Lauren Malinowski and Francesca McCarthy (Terre Haute, Ind.) also chipped in with 18 and 13 points respectively.

Freshman Kari Barnes (Fort Wayne, Ind.) knocked down 3-of-7 shots from beyond the arc for 9 points while also pulling down 4 rebounds.

Lakers guard Casey Davis offense outburst did damage to the Saints in the second half as she scored 16 of her game high 30 points in the half while knocking down 10-of-13 from the free-throw line.

The Saints (7-15, 3-11 CCAC), have dropped four straight contests and will return to action on the road on Saturday, January 19th against Trinity Christian College. The next home game for the Saints will take place on Wednesday, January 23rd against the 14th ranked Cardinal Stritch Wolves. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST.
