(Chicago, Ill.) The Holy Cross Saints men's basketball team began their two-game road trip Wednesday night in Chicago, Illinois to close out their season series with the Roosevelt Lakers. The Lakers led from start to finish defeating the Saints 74-66 sweeping the season series 2-0.
Brandon Evans (Grand Rapids, Mich.) got the Saints on the board with a dunk on Wednesday night at the new Goodman Center. Unfortunately for the Saints, shots would not fall as easily the rest of the first half. A slow start to the game where the Saints hit just 10-of-30 from the floor, paired with a late 9-to-2 Roosevelt run to close the half, found the Saints trailing by 36-25 at the break.
The Lakers momentum continued in the second half as they shot an even 50% from the floor and extended their lead to as many as 23 points.
By the time the Saints offense began clicking it was too late. Over the last six minutes they used a 25-to-10 run to cut the lead to single-digits as they fell to the Lakers 74-66.
The loss for the Saints is their third straight and fifth in the month of January.
Parker Dominguez (Santa Clarita, Cali.) led the Saints with 15 while Brandon Evans (14) and Zoe Bauer (Culver, Ind.) (12) each chipped in with double figures. Dominguez and Evans each pulled down 8 rebounds.
After shooting just 33.3% from the floor in the first half, the Saints offense dramatically improved during the second half as they hit 48.5% of their shots and outscored the Lakers 41-38 over the final twenty minutes.
The Saints (10-11, 6-10 CCAC), will continue their road trip on Saturday as they take on Trinity Christian College. The next home contest for the Saints will take place on Wednesday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m. against 3rd ranked Cardinal Stritch University.
