(Palos Heights, Ill.) The Saints closed out their two-game road trip in impressive fashion on Saturday defeating the Trolls of Trinity Christian College 80-57. With the victory, the Saints swept the season series and recorded their third straight victory over the Trolls.
The Saints defense was active early and often throughout the course of the game as they forced 24 Trolls turnovers which resulted in 24 points.
A Megan Eve (Scottsburg, Ind.) three-pointer gave the Saints a three point lead at the 14:41 mark; a lead they would never give back. With a lead as high as 13 points in the first half, the Saints were able to counter the runs by Trinity Christian and hold on to an eight point lead at the break.
The long-ball was falling for the Saints in the first half as they went 7-of-15 from beyond the arc led by Megan Eve who scored all 15 of her season high points throughout the first twenty minutes.
Despite the Trolls shooting 45.8% from the floor, the Saints were able to force key turnovers and capitalize on them.
With just a seven point lead halfway through the second half, the Saints offense used a 21-to-5 run which gave them a 23 point lead with only 6:03 left to play. At this point, the Saints took complete control in the half holding the Trolls to just 32.3% from the floor and outscoring them 40-25.
Bench production was key in the Saints success to extend their lead as freshman Kari Barnes (Fort Wayne, Ind.) scored 8 of her career high 13 points over the last twenty minutes.
The Trolls were unable to put together any significant runs over the final six minutes as the Saints secured an 80-57 victory and season sweep.
Megan Eve led the Saints in scoring with 15 and was one of four players to record double-figure scoring. Lauren Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) was instrumental in finding open players as she finished the game with a season high 9 assists.
The Saints (8-15, 4-11 CCAC) will return home to McKenna Arena on Wednesday, January 23rd to take on the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST. Remember to wear black as we look to blackout McKenna Arena!
